INQ to launch first Android phone before 2011
The CEO of INQ Mobile, Frank Meehan, said in a GigaOM interview on Thursday that his company would release its first Android-powered touchscreen handset in the fall of 2010. The London-based company will switch to offering nothing but Android handsets, moving away from the current BREW OS-based handsets. INQ will focus on mid-range Android phones, slotting in below HTC's and on par with Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung.
Whether INQ takes an existing Android phone and rebrands it remains unknown, but likely.
Meehan's announcement gives a date for the promise he made back in September. With the move, the company will be able to grant users access to the Android Market and Google mobile services.
