PHYX Cleaner plugin repairs video defects

updated 03:20 pm EDT, Fri June 11, 2010

Increases bit-depth, deinterlaces frames

Noise Industries and PHYX have launched a new video repair plugin, PHYX Cleaner. The software can be used to rebuild pixelated chroma channels, restore gradients, and increase effective color depth; it can also be used to convert interlaced fields into progressive comb-free frames, smooth skin blemishes, and remove high- and low-frequency visual noise. Rough 3D 8-bit images can be converted to higher bit depths.

The plugin has five separate tools. The Chroma Reconstructor rebuilds color channels, fixing chroma issues like blocky colors and sampling artifacts, while the Deband tool repairs gradients and can increase color depth up to 32-bit. The Deinterlace tool converts fields into progressive frames, and the Digital Make Up Kit handles skin blemishes. Fast Noise Reduction includes a sharpening tool.

PHYX Cleaner runs on Mac OS X 10.5 or later. It supports After Effects, Motion, and Final Cut Pro or Express. The developers are selling it for $200.
