Distribution expanded to meet demand
Walmart has announced that it is set to offer the iPhone 4 on June 24, the first day of general availability. The move is expected to help Apple meet the strong demand that is expected on the launch day, as customers will be able to purchase the device from several different retail outlets. Other stores such as Best Buy and Radio Shack are also believed to be stocking the handset for sales beginning on June 24.
The announcement marks the first time Walmart will be selling an iPhone on launch day. Previous generations were only available from the retailer at later dates. Many customers were forced to wait in long lines at AT&T outlets and Apple Stores.
The iPhone 4 will be available with 16GB or 32GB storage capacities and respective prices of $199 or $299 with a two-year contract. Walmart will not be offering pre-orders, which will be offered beginning June 15 from Apple and AT&T. [via CNET]
