Nokia N8 to get iMovie-like video editing

Nokia N8 to rival iPhone 4 for movie editing

Nokia in a seemingly coincidental update has pitched the N8 against the iPhone 4 as a tool for video editing (video below). The Symbian^3 phone will have a visual timeline "like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker" and in some ways will behave like iMovie for iPhone. Owners can trim and split clips as well as add transitions and customizable titles.

Unlike its Apple counterpart, the N8's micro USB port gives it support for external storage. Videographers planning to make a lot of footage can use it to offload movies to a flash drive and regain the available space without having to first sync with a computer or post it online.

The feature would have been developed at roughly the same time as the iPhone app, but which will arrive first isn't clear. Apple hasn't given a set launch date for the iPhone port of iMovie, but the N8 may not ship to its first carriers until late August. Nokia has, however, promised that the N8's editor will be built-in where Apple is asking $5 for the download.

    Only one problem Nokia's won't work :)

I have a Nokia. It's a maze of buttons and strange beeps and clicking noises.

Frankly it's a mess. Oh my Nuron doesn't run S^3, but its a brand new Nokia smartphone, so they made their impression. From what I've read, one should expect miracles from S^3 either, and the N8 phone in particular is quite low res, on the screen resolution, compared to iPhone 4 or even Droid Incredible.
