Space trading, combat game ditches Cider
An independent developer has released three ready-made Xcode projects that allow authors to create mobile versions of their books, while Virtual Programming has announced the release of a native Mac port of X3: Reunion.
Chris Mayer, an independent developer, has announced the release of three complete Xcode projects designed for authors wanting to publish books for the iPhone and iPad. The projects -- Simple Book App for iPhone, Universal Simple Book App for iPhone and iPad, and Advanced Book App for iPhone -- are ready-made apps that only require content to be loaded in HTML format. Pages can be created in any HTML editor, and use a variety of fonts and styles, as well as images. The Advanced Book App includes several features not found in Simple, and is currently selling for $27 versus $9. The Universal project costs $18.
X3: Reunion re-releases for Mac without Cider code
Following a number of complaints, Virtual Programming has reissued the Mac version of X3: Reunion as a non-Cider port. "We weren't happy with X3: Reunion's performance when using Cider, and it turned out many of our customers weren't either," says company CEO Mark Hinton. The new edition has been re-engineered as a native port, and is available as a free update for existing customers. The 3D space strategy/adventure game was originally released for the Mac in 2007 and introduced a new 3D engine, as well as a new story and revised gameplay.
