AT&T offers early upgrade promo for current iPhone owners

updated 04:50 pm EDT, Mon June 7, 2010

3GS offered in 8GB variant for $99

AT&T has announced a promotion for current iPhone owners who want to step up to the new iPhone 4 introduced on Monday. Customers who are eligible for upgrades any time before the end of 2010 can purchase the 16GB device for $199, or the 32GB model for $299, as soon as the handsets begin shipping.

Any subscribers that will not be eligible for upgrades before the end of the year must pay the standard early-upgrade price of $399 or $499 depending on the model, while no-contract pricing ranges between $599 and $699.

The iPhone 4 introduction brought changes to the rest of the iPhone lineup. Apple has dropped the 8GB iPhone 3G, along with both the 16GB and 32GB 3GS models. The 3GS now represents the entry-level handset, at $99, but with 8GB of flash memory.

Customers can place iPhone 4 pre-orders beginning on June 15, with availability scheduled for June 24.
