Short iPad stock hindering grandfathering
AT&T is exploring ways of helping some iPad 3G buyers hold on to their unlimited data plans, according to an anonymous executive at the carrier. The company is officially ending unlimited data on the iPad 3G as of June 7th, with the provision that people on renewing unlimited plans will be able to avoid caps. Because Apple is unable to meet demand for the tablet, however, there are people wanting to lock in unlimited data that may be prevented from doing so.
A solution being discussed at AT&T, according to the executive, would let people ordering an iPad 3G before the 7th still qualify for unlimited data afterward, even if their device still hasn't shipped. The policy would likely be applied to many people already switched over to a 2GB cap, as only three days are left before the deadline, and Apple's online store is listing shipping times of seven to 10 days. Some retail stores may have stock, but are only reported to be getting 3G models on a sporadic basis.

Bait and switch
Apple STILL shows advertising on their site that says you can enable and disable unlimited 3G service on a month to month basis. This is obviously false now. Anyone that purchases a unit now will not be able to do that.
