Bitbop enters limited beta

Bitbop gives testers major video streams

Bitbop today quietly entered the first part of its beta. Four BlackBerry devices can download or stream TV shows from 25 providers, such as CBS, Fox and NBC. Android phones, iPhones and movies aren't part of the early testing but should come later.

No fixed timetable is set for the deployment of the official service beyond a general spring window. When it goes live, it should cost about $10 per month for access to the full catalog over both 3G and Wi-Fi.

The service was conceived by Fox as a means of providing a full, legal way of getting mainstream content to mobile devices; it preempts Hulu, which could support many devices with its eventual paid service but has seen significant setbacks that prevent it from going live close to Bitbop's availability.
