Company could place holds on deliveries
Apple has started officially shipping iPads to at least one of the countries slated to get the device on May 28th, UK customers say. Only early online pre-orders are likely to be processed, since the company rapidly ran out of launch-day stock. It may still be possible to buy an iPad on the 28th, but only by appearing in person at an Apple Store or reseller.
What remains to be seen is whether Apple will impose artificial delays on deliveries for precise timing, as it did with the first American iPads. These barriers were dropped for the iPad 3G, suggesting that Apple may be less concerned about PR impact now that the device has been widely reviewed. Some iPads are reportedly already arriving in countries like Italy.
