Free for contracts $36/month and up

Vodafone UK began taking preorders for the Samsung Wave smartphone, with shipment beginning June 1st. The handset is the first to use Samsung's Bada platform, which it positions as its own alternative to Android-based phones. Vodafone is offering the Samsung Wave free for new 2-year contracts priced 25 ($36) per month or above.

The Samsung Wave is the company's flagship for Bada, and is built around a 3.3-inch, 800x480 Super AMOLED touchscreen with support for 720p video playback. It uses a 1GHz processor and sports a 5-megapixel camera that is capable of recording 720p video, 802.11n Wi-Fi and 24Mbps Bluetooth 3.0 that can use Wi-Fi as a transport. The TouchWiz interface supports up to 10 customizable home screens, an "ultimate" inbox that merges messaging and social media like Facebook or Twitter. Samsung also plans to launch a central app store in 50 countries to support third-party developers.
