Judge dismisses paranoid lawsuit against Apple

updated 09:45 pm EDT, Wed May 19, 2010

Plaintiff called Apple employees "vultures"

A federal judge has decided to toss out a lawsuit filed by Leslie Carr, a paranoid MacBook user who claimed Apple was spying on her when she attempted to browse the Internet. The case, which was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, sought $60 million in damages, as Carr claimed the harassment prevented her from publishing on the web.

Carr suggested that ""there would be a mass number of Apple employees waiting greedily like vultures to survey and monitor my life," whenever the MacBook was connected to the Internet.

District Judge Richard Berman decided that the complaint lacked a plausible claim for relief. "Where, as here, a complaint is asserting unrealistic and unsupportable claims, a court may dismiss it."

    That's not Apple watching you...

    It's Bush and Bush 2.0 (Obama) watching you.

    Why Apple and not Google?

    I love Google, but if I were going into paranoid illusions about being spied upon, I'd stick with the comfort of blaming Google...at least half the internet would back me up on that one :)

    @Why Apple and not Google?

    If you thought Google was spying on you, you wouldn't be paranoid - you'd be observant.

    Problem is: the poor woman probably doesn't even know she needs a therapist.

    leading article

    The article calls this woman 'paranoid'. Technically she is only paranoid if Apple isn't spying on her. Just because she couldn't prove her claims doesn't mean she isn't being watched. You shouldn't editorialize within your 'news' articles.

    BTW, if Apple were watching her (and able to get away with it all these years), is it too far-fetched to think that they also pressured the judge (or maybe gave him an incentive, like a free iPad!) into throwing the lawsuit out as being unfounded?

    h***, I've watched TV. I know how big companies work to squash the innocent little guy (or woman, in this case). This is why we need the A-Team to return. And the Fugitive. And the Leverage crew....

    Wow, testudo, does your Apple-bashing know no bounds? Now you're saying Apple is watching her, and buying off federal judges to boot?

    I really, really hope you were being sarcastic, but I've seen too many of your comments to believe that.
