Apple Stores take on new business positions

Reflects slow growth in Apple enterprise support

Apple has added two new job positions for workers at its retail stores, both connected to business. The first, business leader, involves overseeing the business managers at several stores. A leader is also expected to market to local businesses, maintain accounts and ensure loyalty. The barrier to entry involves 10 years of customer experience, and five years in business sales.

"Solution engineers" are tasked with providing training, proposals and sales presentations. The job is a more technical one, requiring a Bachelor's in engineering, plus another three to five years of experience with Apple and UNIX systems.

Apple has generally been reluctant to market to business customers, to the extent that the company does not have a dedicated enterprise unit. As Mac and iPhone sales have grown however the company has been forced to offer better support, for instance by adding the first retail business consultants in 2004.
