OnLive gaming service teams up with UK provider BT

updated 03:35 pm EDT, Thu May 13, 2010

OnLive to arrive in UK homes thanks to BT deal

Streaming gaming service OnLive has partnered with UK telecoms provider BT to bring its service to customers' homes. Under the deal, BT will own 2.6 percent of OnLive and get exclusive rights to bundle the service with its broadband service. The service is expected to come to the US this summer.

Essentially cloud gaming, OnLive promises to bring the latest games to users of Macs, PCs and even TVs, without the need for high-end gaming rigs as the processing is done on OnLive's servers. Users will not need to download games before using them. They will need an adapter box and controllers in addition to a computer or TV, however.

Pricing for the service or an exact launch date in the UK haven't been announced. In the US, OnLive is due June 17th and will cost $15 per month in addition to some per-game costs.
