Dell Mini 5 set for Europe launch, followed by AT&T offering

updated 11:25 pm EDT, Thu May 13, 2010

Android-based device features 5-inch display

Dell founder and CEO Michael Dell has previewed the upcoming Mini 5 device during his keynote speech at the Citrix Synergy conference. The executive also provided launch details, claiming the tablet will begin shipping in June. European customers will be the first in line, through Telefonica O2, while the US launch will come later via AT&T.

The small Android-based tablet, also referred to as the Streak, features a five-inch touchscreen with 800x480 resolution, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity, and dual cameras for videoconferencing and capturing photographs.

Dell's demo showed the device running the virtualization client Citrix Receiver, which allows users to remotely control desktop applications. The device will ship with a standard group of Android apps, although it is unlikely to include Citrix Receiver pre-installed.

Dell has yet to announce pricing information for the Mini 5, or specific launch dates in Europe and the US. A separate report suggests the device could also be on the way to T-Mobile. [via eWeek]
