Networking remains hassle of first-gen models
A firmware update is in the works for the iPad's troublesome Wi-Fi issues, Apple has confirmed. The information is mentioned in an updated support article, which offers ways of dealing with unreliable or simply weak and/or broken Wi-Fi connections. Apple has not announced when the updated firmware will be available, but the company seldom reveals such dates unless talking about a major revision like iPhone 4.0.
As a stop-gap Apple suggests making sure router firmware is up to date, and using WPA or WPA2 security instead of WEP, as the latter is more likely to cause disconnections. People may also have to manually renew their IPs, or even adjust screen brightness, though it is not clear how that may be related to Wi-Fi signal. "If brightness is at lowest level, increase it by moving the slider to the right and set auto brightness to off," Apple instructs.
