MacBook Air may get long overdue upgrade

A model number leak today hinted that Apple is finally near updating the MacBook Air. One previously unknown entry, MC516LL/A K87 BETTER BTR-USA, has surfaced in an official database and is shipping to Australia in the order of "several thousand" units. The Australian branch of Macworld also understands that MacBook Air supplies are low even though online stores around the world say the system ships in 24 hours.

The exact nature of the upgrade isn't known, but Apple's dependence on fast integrated graphics may lead it to keep using Core 2 Duo S processors and upgrade to the GeForce 320M chipset. Some rumors have circulated that Apple had been waiting on sufficient stock of low-voltage Core i5 or i7 processors, but such a move might leave Apple using slower Intel graphics.

Other likely upgrades include a boost to 4GB of RAM, larger hard drive and SSD options, and possibly longer battery life. No immediate clues have been given as to a redesign, although a 'buttonless' glass trackpad has been one of the most probable changes.

    iPad, perhaps?

Hard to believe it would be the Air. I've not seen one out in the Australian wild nor know of anybody who owns one. I just didn't think they were that popular. Who knows.
