T-Mobile adds new HTC Android QWERTY slider

T-Mobile today finally took the wraps from its second myTouch phone and only the second HTC QWERTY phone since the G1. The myTouch 3G Slide adds its namesake keyboard and a larger 3.4-inch (but still 480x320) touchscreen, also swapping out the trackball for a trackpad and updating to Android 2.1. Its interface is almost as important: a custom-developed UI brings a Faves Gallery that keeps all the info and updates for 20 contacts, a Genius Button that provides Dragon Dictation-based voice commands not unlike Apple's Voice Control, and myModes that can change the entire OS theme and icon layout based on such specific conditions as the GPS location or the time of day.

Inside, the phone upgrades to a 5-megapixel camera and is likely to have a faster processor than the 528MHz original, although neither HTC nor T-Mobile has said whether it's using the faster chip. GPS and Wi-Fi are still present, and T-Mobile is bundling an 8GB microSDHC card to provide enough storage.

The myTouch 3G Slide won't have ideal timing for T-Mobile, as it's only slated to arrive in June. Pricing hasn't been mentioned, but it may cost close to the $150 of the current touch-only phone.
