Rogers Social View app to hit new Android phones
Rogers today through a series of hints showed it was on the verge of launching not just new smartphones but new plans to match. Both an article for the company's in-house URMagazine and a leak have shown that the Canadian carrier is finally nearing the launch of the Acer Liquid e. The handset will be Rogers' first Android 2.1 device and also one of its best, with a 768MHz Snapdragon, a 3.5-inch 480x800 screen, 720p video playback and a 5-megapixel camera as its definitive traits.
Simultaneously, a promo for Social View, or the concept of phones that show social networking info in the address book, has also shown that Rogers will be the carrier to pick up the Motorola Quench in Canada. Better known as the Cliq XT on T-Mobile in the US, it has a more modest processor and a 3.1-inch 320x480 screen. It runs on the earlier Android 1.5.
To accompany the new phones, three social-themed plans are also enroute. A basic Unlimited Socialite Plan will serve non-smartphones and will be supplemented by an Unlimited Socialite Master Plan that adds more features. Smartphones will have just one option, the Unlimited Social Addict Plan. Rogers hasn't given details of what these would include, but unlimited text messaging and possibly e-mail are both strong candidates, as is some form of general data plan.
Release windows and prices haven't been narrowed down for either the Liquid e or the Quench. [via AndroidGuys]
