Creative outs ZiiSound D5 Bluetooth speaker

Creative has just released its ZiiSound D5 Bluetooth speaker system. The company claimed to have avoided the usual compression problems and is using apt-X for streaming high-quality audio over the 3Mbps link. It should support any A2DP-capable Bluetooth device, including smartphones such as the iPhone as well as other handhelds like the iPad and iPod.

Notebooks and netbooks will also recognize the D5 through an included USB Bluetooth adapter if they lack the technology, or through their own radios if they already have the connection built-in. A wired 3.5mm cable connection is integrated for hooking up wired sources.

It contains two 2.75-inch speakers and no subwoofer, but a port exists to better reproduce low-end frequencies. For a short time, the ZiiSound D5 will ship with the USB transmitter, the BT-D1, bundled in the box; it should cost $40 afterwards. The speaker system itself costs $300.
