Microsoft, former Fox head working on Xbox 360 TV channel?

updated 01:25 pm EDT, Wed April 21, 2010

Xbox would have exclusive Internet TV station

Microsoft and former News Corp. head Peter Chernin are considering producing an Internet TV station just for the Xbox 360, a rumor maintained today. The station would give Xbox Live owners a mix of new and rerun shows. It might cost gamers extra, and Chernin is reportedly pushing to add the equivalent of $1 to $2 per month to the annual Xbox Live Gold fee to subsidize the network.

Two sources for Bloomberg warned that the talks were private and that there wasn't anything committed as of yet. Neither Chernin nor Microsoft has agreed to comment.

The Xbox 360 has already been considered a leader in online video through its downloadable movie rentals and purchases as well as extras like Netflix, but it has never had live content. Sony doesn't offer live shows on the PS3 in the US but does have a deal with Sky in the UK and offers both the PlayTV and Torne tuners in the UK and Japan respectively.
