updated 12:45 am EDT, Wed April 21, 2010

Improved defragmentation of files

Prosoft Engineering has launched Drive Genius 3.0, a major upgrade to its hard drive maintenance utility designed to improve speed and overall performance. With the latest release 64-bit support has been added for Apple’s Snow Leopard operating system, and enhancements have been made for the defragmentation of files. Drive Pulse technology has also been added in order to help monitor the overall health of the user’s drive, and send alerts regarding any possible issues.

Other features include additional support for hardware based RAID and Apple’s software RAID, along with added support for deleting and altering OS X partitions. E-mail notifications can now be customized to automatically be sent whenever long-running tasks are completed. Lastly, scans can now perform a “live” block verification of the boot/disk volume.

Drive Genius 3.0 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.5.3 or higher, and is available as either a free downloadable demo or the full version which is priced at $100. Current Drive Genius users can upgrade to the new version for $50.
