HTC Hero's Android 2.1 update pushed back to June

updated 03:25 pm EDT, Wed April 21, 2010

Hero Android 2.1 update delayed again, due June

Delayed time and time again, the expected update to Android 2.1 for the HTC Hero looks to have been delayed yet again. Last promised to start rolling out late last week, HTC has now said in an e-mail that the release will come in June. No reason was given for the delay.

Most expect the patch to consist of an initial, preparatory update followed by a full release.

Android 2.1's animated backgrounds aren't likely to make the cut due to the Hero's lower processing power compared to a phone like the Nexus One, but it should still bring faster performance, a newer web browser, advanced voice command services and access to both the updated Android Market as well as a newer wave of services like Google Maps Navigation. Forgot to Mention this is for Europe Not US

    From the Pocket-Lint Artice:

"HTC will be providing a free update to Éclair for European HTC Hero variants. Starting in June, anyone owning an HTC Hero will receive an initial preparatory update, shortly followed by the full Éclair update. For the full update, we would recommend using a free wi-fi hotspot or an unlimited data plan, otherwise standard data charges may apply"
