Panasonic shows Skype-compatible webcam for HDTVs
After announcing Panasonic and LG will build Skype-compatible HDTVs in January, Panasonic has now introduced an add-on webcam that lets users hold video calls using Skype. The TY-CC10W web camera will be compatible with certain VIERA HDTVs. It will plug into a USB 2.0 port of a set with the latest firmware installed and enable video chats at up to 720p resolution when logged into a regular Skype account.
The camera has a 1/4 CMOS sensor that has a 56.8-degree coverage and four microphones. In full HD, video comes in H.264 at 22FPS; it reaches a full 30FPS at VGA size.
Panasonic will ship the TY-CC10W in Japan on June 11 for the equivalent of about $194. Plans for a more widespread release have not been revealed. [via Impress]
