Legend Maker 1.0 for Mac generates eBooks from RTF files

updated 06:25 pm EDT, Mon April 19, 2010

eBook software is typography, layout aware

ZappTek has launched a new application, Legend Maker 1.0 for Mac OS X, which converts book manuscripts from word processor files to eBooks. The new software generates eBooks files that will work with the iPad, Kindle, Reader and Nook and also software readers ibis reader and bookworm. It can generate eBooks with complex layout and design, using images, indexes, tables of contents and footnotes and endnotes.

Legend Maker works with word processor files that have been converted to RTF, taking text-based tags in the manuscript -- indicating page breaks, bookmarks and images -- and converting the layout references into a fully functional eBook. The converter supports typographical elements like italics, boldface, indentation, hyperlinks, and tables. Newly generated eBooks support user-supplied metadata like titles, authors, genres, publishers, copyrights, ISBN IDs and creation dates.

Legend Maker 1.0 requires an Intel chip and Mac OS X 10.6. It is $100 with lifetime free updates.

    Um, how much?

$100?? This should be $8-$15. It does VERY little.

    Calibre is MUCH cheaper

And does conversion from many more formats. I thought this would be in the $5-10 range. $100 is WAY too much.

Hey, thanks, guys! This is something I want to do, but $100 does seem like a lot.

    Just wait, PPL

Someday soon, Apple will finally update Pages to export to ePub format. These guys have to milk the current market for all it's worth until it dries up entirely...
