Syabas releases app SDK for Popbox media hub

Syabas, maker of the Popcorn Hour and its upcoming successor the Popbox, has now released a Popapp Software Development Kit (SDK) for developers for the yet-to-be-released device. The SDK will bring with it the ability to view Adobe Flash apps on the Popbox, while third party developers can create apps that play videos, music and photos, read and write metadata content and access data on connected drives or networks, as well as media from the web.

The SDK is also capable of handling remote commands, running widgets and loading data specific to a certain app.

Popbox will be the company's flagship offering, capable of playing back 1080p videos at up to 100Mbps bitrates. It will support MPEG, H.264, VC-1, WMV and XviD, as well as MKV and multiple subtitle formats. The device is expected, but not confirmed, to launch sometime this spring with a target price of $129.
