Unlimited possibilities after learning curve
MacNN has reviewed ArtRage Studio Pro. The computer composition tool is geared towards creating traditional imagery emulating paint, chalk, crayons and pencils. The tools are very flexible, allowing users to alter settings such as thinning paint, smearing, blending and spreading or mixing media. Version 3 now lets users work with Adobe Photoshop brushes also.
After a learning curve, the tools allow users to create without limitations. The manual was also considered excellent. The primary problems found during the review were undo problems -- images cannot be unrotated, and redo key is mapped to Command-Y instead of the more common Command-Z. The software also limits users to one document at any given time.
ArtRage Studio Pro 3 requires Mac OS X 10.4 and works with Snow Leopard. It is $80 and also available in a non-pro version for $40.
