Large Nokia device would have OpenGL ES 2 video
Game developer Fishlabs fueled rumors of a Nokia tablet earlier this week by quietly mentioning collaboration on a project. Both Fishlabs and Nokia are working together on a top-tier game for a device with a "large screen" and graphics hardware capable of OpenGL ES 2.0 effects. The software team didn't say when it expected the game or the matching hardware to be ready.
It remains possible that the company is simply referring to a high-end smartphone like the N8, but the full tablet if real would be ready as soon as the fall.
Officially, Nokia hasn't confirmed any plans of its own but has admitted that it's interested in more non-phone devices beyond just its Booklet 3G netbook. The company was one of the earliest pioneers of Internet-connected tablets but has had relative difficulty getting traction. Faster mobile processors, capacitive touchscreens and more widespread 3G access have helped expand the market considerably in recent months, and the current popularity of the iPad may have helped establish a wider audience for Nokia's return.
