Lenovo delaying Skylight to compete against iPad?

updated 08:05 am EDT, Tue April 13, 2010

Lenovo sees own smartbook as poor vs iPad

Lenovo's decision to delay the Skylight until July may have stemmed directly from competitive pressure from the iPad, according to an alleged leak. While the company hasn't explained it publicly, notebook industry contacts said Lenovo isn't happy with the performance versus the Apple tablet and that both the control and feature set aren't as strong as they could be.

What's considered deficient is still a mystery, but as announced the Skylight roughly draws even in most respects. It has the same official 10 hours of battery life, a 1GHz (if noticeably slower) processor and 20GB of internal storage, along with built-in 3G. However, it uses a conventional notebook design at the same $499 price as the touchscreen iPad and is both heavier and thicker.

Lenovo hasn't yet commented on the claims.

It sort of looks like a netbook...

but a slim version. I think something like that could be useful as long as they're not trying to stick a full version of Windows 7 on it. If it plays back videos well, that's even better.
