Second round of iPad pre-orders begins shipping

updated 10:30 am EDT, Tue April 6, 2010

Best Buy outlets may see tablet early

Apple is now shipping the second batch of iPad pre-orders, reports say. The company first began taking orders on March 12th, but eventually ran out units for the April 3rd launch, and so subsequently pushed target dates out to April 12th. The second wave is already enroute from Shenzhen, China, but is still officially scheduled to arrive on the 12th, even though the timing should allow for earlier delivery.

People wanting an iPad ahead of then may still be able to find one in some stores. Best Buy outlets are meanwhile expected to get resupplies on April 11th, timed with new advertising; as before though, each shop should be stocked with just 15 iPads, divided equally between 16, 32 and 64GB capacities. Shipping plans beyond that point are unclear, but the first 3G iPads will become available towards the end of the month.
