Modular design connects to CCU or ASI encoder

JVC on Monday introduced a new flagship camcorder in its ProHD line, the GY-HM790. The latest offering builds upon features of the company's GY-HM700 device, integrating three 1/3-inch CCDs capable of shooting in 1080p, 1080i, 720p, or 480i formats. The camera is said to offer improved picture quality, reaching beyond the GY-HD250 model.

The HM790 features a new modular design, allowing users to attach ASI or BNC components for live feed via satellite uplink or microwave transmitter. Modules connect directly without extra cabling, allowing the camera to be used on a studio sled or handheld. Other studio options include a 26-pin Multicore Module, CCUs, and a Fiber Remote module.

The device offers an analog SD pool feed input, 4.3-inch LCD screen, and 1.2 megapixel viewfinder. Two XLR inputs are provided for uncompressed LPCM audio recording, with manual level controls and phantom power if needed.

JVC expects the GY-HM790 to ship sometime in the summer. MSRP starts at $12,000 for a package with Canon's 14x HD ENG lens.
