Taiwan paper says new MacBooks due this month

MacBooks may get 8hr life, 640GB drives

Taiwan newspaper Apple Daily today claimed that new MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models are due to ship this month. Unnamed sources said the systems would use the mobile Core i3, i5 and i7 processors and that the 13- and 15-inch models would all get eight-hour battery life, up an hour from today. They would also get 640GB drive options with a 256GB SSD as an alternate.

The paper explained the seemingly long delay by maintaining that Apple had planned to ship the notebooks in March but that Intel's shortage of mobile processors had pushed it back. Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Quanta would build the notebooks themselves, while AU Optronics and Innolux would make the LCD panels.

Apple is now one of the last to update its notebooks for Intel's 2010 mobile processors but is expected to use cutting edge technology when it does arrive, including NVIDIA Optimus graphics switching that would revert to Intel video in energy-saving modes without having to log out or reboot. Newer graphics cores themselves, such as NVIDIA's GeForce 300M series, are also probable. [via MacRumors]

I was just thinking that I'll have to buy a new 15" Macbook Pro!

    not quite

Like one should base their decisions on unnamed sources inside the contractors to build these things...

But if it does come out, I sure hope Apple decides to put back the ExpressCard slot on the 15" version. Not spending $3000 on a laptop so I can use my eSATA devices and not $2000 on a laptop that has no expansion capabilities at all (esp. for a "Pro" machine).

    ExpressCard slot ..

Bring back the ExpressCard slot to the 15" and I'll buy one, as will 10+ of my clients that have been holding out, not wanting the crippled 15" MBP currently available..
