EMG tacks iPad onto infringement claims against Apple

updated 12:30 pm EDT, Mon April 5, 2010

Joins first wave of iPad attacks

EMG Technology is adding the iPad to a list of Apple products and services it accuses of infringing on patents, according to a statement. The company is already targeting Apple in a lawsuit over the iPhone, iPod touch, Apple TV and iTunes Store. Together the products are said to violate a series of ideas relating to Internet navigation, as well as IPTV. EMG claims in fact that the iPad is a "personal TV," in addition to being a media player and e-book reader.

The company may be referring to the slew of video apps which accompanied the iPad's launch, as well as pre-installed software. A trial date has been set for September 12th of next year. The case is unlikely to make it that far however, as many such lawsuits are settled out of court.

Cue the chorus of Apple Fanboys

You can't have it both ways, either the patent system is broken or it isn't.

In general, that Apple fan base loves the patent system... I don't, its broken and stifles innovation.

How is it more a "personal TV"

than any computer, and why aren't all computing devices capable of displaying movies, shows, whathaveyou, on this suit. Are they also going after internet enabled TVs?

I fail to see the distinction here. Doesn't mean there ain't one, but...
