Downloads focus on stability and security

Apple on Tuesday released maintenance updates for QuickTime and iPhoto. QuickTime 7.6.6 focuses on increased reliability, expanded compatibility, and improved security. Specific details are vague, although the download is said to address H.264 playback issues on certain Windows systems with multi-core configurations.

The latest version of QuickTime has been revamped to protect against attacks using PICT and BMP images or QDM2/QDMC-encoded audio. Apple has also addressed security vulnerabilities involving video files encoded using H.264, RLE, M-JPEG, FlashPix, FLC, or MPEG.

iPhoto 8.1.2 addresses minor issues related to importing and syncing with an iPhone, iPod or Apple TV.

The QuickTime and iPhoto downloads are available from Apple's Support site or via Software Update. [QuickTime Mac OS X Download - 68.6MB] [iPhoto download - 13.3MB]
