Video allegedly shows taller 2010 iPhone LCD

updated 04:30 pm EDT, Mon March 29, 2010

Leak corroborates earlier reports

A video posted by the repair company SmartPhoneMedic allegedly shows the LCD and digitizer assembly for an upcoming iPhone design. The components show a similar overall appearance to a glass facade recently obtained by a different repair company, iResQ. Side-by-side comparisons with an iPhone 3G display indicate a slightly longer design with the unconfirmed panels.

Unlike the earlier photos, which showed the proximity sensor moved above the speaker, the latest images appear to place the sensor in a similar position to the current iPhone.

It is unclear if the lengthened LCD offers a higher resolution than the existing 480x320 component, which has been bested by a variety of other smartphones offering 800x480 touchscreens.

The authenticity of both LCD components remains unknown, as Apple has yet to provide any official details regarding a 2010 iPhone revision. [via Nowhereelse.fr]

    Huh?

Why would a REPAIR company have their hands on parts already? My guess is it's just one of the clone parts from a fake iPhone that you can get from China....

    pfff

There are other phones that have higher resolution screens, but they aren't made by Apple, so who cares.

The new iPhone won't have any upgraded features, but will be a slightly different shape so you have to get all new accessories!

    wrong

I see nothing to indicate a bigger screen. The whole widget looks to be a few mm longer, but the screen itself seems identical to the 3G.

    Nothing exciting.

    Re: wrong

Between the two, I would guess most users would prefer a bigger screen and same widget size than the opposite. With all the people already standing in line for the next generation iPhones (and ready to complain that they, once again, have to pay full price because, gasp!, they're changing their phone before their contract is up), I'm sure the last thing they want to do is buy new cases and protectors.

No Authorized Repair company would have these parts at all, since all iPhones/iPods are repaired by Apple directly. Since they aren't authorized, all they do is get a bunch of parts from suppliers who claim they are parts for iPods/iPhones/etc.

    Huh Squared

"all iPhones/iPods are repaired by Apple directly"

Nope, any Apple Authorized Repair Partner (AARP) can repair any Apple product -- iPhones, iPods, iPads included. And they will get parts kits ahead of launch -- after all, being able to fix it quick makes good sense all around: consumer, vendor, Apple.

That they are not allowed/supposed to unbox them is a different story.
