Google Voice for Android gets instant inbox sync

Android gets near real-time voicemail updates

Google has quietly updated Google Voice for Android to provide almost immediate SMS and voicemail. A new inbox sync will push notifications of new messages "within seconds" of their arriving on Google's servers; previously, the company could only promise updates within 15 minutes. The update also avoids forwarding the SMS to the phone so it doesn't get an update a second time after the usual Android SMS notice.

A new interface element finishes up the changes and lets users e-mail or IM anyone who has left a voicemail just by tapping their photo in the list of recent messages.

Google Voice should still work with most any Android phone and is currently free for all but international calls or text messaging. It still exists in a beta stage and is US-only while the company wraps up testing. All iPhone users are currently limited to an HTML5 app that doesn't push live notifications.

    Unsync with SMS?

Is there a way to keep them separate like before? I had to do a factory restore on my phone and re-downloaded Google voice to my HTC EVO and now it sends/receives as my Google voice on my sms...I would like to have my SMS and Google Voice separate.
