Bharti Airtel sets date, prices for Indian iPhone 3GS

updated 11:40 am EDT, Wed March 24, 2010

Phone long overdue

Having only said last week that it would soon carry the iPhone 3GS in India, Bharti Airtel has just announced that sales will begin on Friday, March 26th. While the iPhone 3G has been available in the country for some time, the 3GS has been kept out for unspecified reasons. These could potentially involve relatively slow demand, given India's Third World status.

A 16GB model will start at 35,000 rupees, worth about $784 US, says Reuters. The 32GB phone should begin at 41,500 rupees. No new contract plans have been revealed, except that 3GS buyers will get 500MB of free data every month for their first year of service.
