BlueAnt preps rugged Bluetooth headset, Android app

BlueAnt T1 and Q1 Android app ready for CTIA

BlueAnt's turn at CTIA unveilings today included both its first toughened Bluetooth headset and an Android app for an existing model. Heading these up, the T1 has silicone protectors against minor shocks and a sealed design that reduces the effects of dust and humidity. BlueAnt promises a unique level of accommodation for wind: its noise cancellation is purportedly effective up to 22MPH.

About six hours of talk time are expected on the T1, which can pair with two devices simultaneously and should ship in May for $80.

The Android app gives the Q1 headset the ability to read text messages directly through the headset instead of having to look at the screen; BlueAnt sees it as a way for drivers to keep up to date on messages without taking their eyes away from the road. It also provides headset help. The app needs an Android 2.0 or later device like the Droid or Nexus One as well as a Q1 with the latest firmware.
