Study shows BlackBerry has no loyalty

A new Crowd Science study today suggests that BlackBerry owners have little of the loyalty of Android and iPhone users. Of a sample audience, 39 percent of BlackBerry owners feel they're very likely to buy an iPhone as their next device, and 34 percent expect to switch to Android. Only 31 percent would actively resist an iPhone, and 28 percent would actively oppose Google's OS.

Contrasting against these users, Android and iPhone device owners are considered exceptionally loyal: 87 percent of Android shoppers and 92 percent of iPhone owners fully expect to buy a phone using the same OS. iPhone owners are more receptive to buying Android with 24 percent possibly making the leap, but Android owners are the most loyal with just 13 percent willing to leap to RIM.

Much of the willingness to switch could be explained by the focus of the respective platforms. Both Android and iPhone are skewed towards home users and had a disproportionate level of owners (32 and 28 percent) who just used theirs solely for personal use. Only 16 percent of BlackBerry owners do the same.

For Google, the Nexus One also helped drive Android awareness to where two thirds of all smartphone owners studied knew of the platform at the time of the study.

    Time for the secret weapon

RIM will battle this mindset with, wait for it.......... "Buy one POS get two, thats TWO POS FREE!"

There you go. Stemming the tide of BB users from going over to Apple.

    Loyalty to quality

    Just wait.
When you buy an iPhone and actually LIKE it you'll be labelled a 'fanboy'.

    Fanboy - noun:
Someone who likes a product that's better than the product you like.

    I would love to

dump my blackberry for a nexus one or iPhone but sprint doesn't have it. Rim got complacient and now is playing catchup. They remind me if IBM. Got big headed thinking no one can knock them off their high horse. But apple's reluctance to move the iPhone to other carriers will knock them down too if google goes to all carriers with android.

Breaking news, this just in, blackberry still mostly fiddling with small little track button/ball/pad, yearning for large touch screen on secure platform!

    I didnt hesitate...

I had been issued a BlackBerry from my employer, and while I still use it, I purchased an iPhone for personal use. The iPhone interface is far superior and more user friendly. If I delete an email on my Outlook, te iPhone updates the deleted files whil they remain on my Blackberry. So, I have to delete junk on my Outlook and then delete the same junk on my Blackberry.
