Several tech names in the top 50
Apple CEO Steve Jobs holds the 136th spot amongst Forbes' list of the world's billionaires. The executive currently has a net worth of approximately $5.5 billion. His self-made fortune is credited to investments in Apple and Pixar, a company he bought in 1986 from George Lucas for merely $10 million. Pixar was later sold in 2006 to Disney for $7.4 billion in stock.
Several other tech names are listed in the top 50, including Michael Dell in the 37th spot with $13.5 billion. Steve Ballmer ranks 33rd, while Bill Gates has dropped to the second spot as Mexico's wireless tycoon Carlos Slim has taken the lead with a $53.5 billion net worth. Google's Sergey Brin, Larry Page, and Eric Schmidt are also included in the rankings.
Jobs rose to the 43rd spot in Forbes' 2009 list of the wealthiest Americans. The recent report suggests he may be working on a biography with author Walter Isaacson.
