Dell tablet to get Amazon Kindle, VOD deals

updated 09:15 am EST, Wed March 10, 2010

Dell Mini 5 to support Amazon services

A leak of marketing material for Dell's Mini 5 on Wednesday has revealed a heavy focus on Amazon services. The tablet will have a special content deal and should not only carry Android's existing access to Amazon MP3 but a Kindle e-reader app and a viewer for Amazon's video services. The flyer found by Engadget implies Video On Demand, which so far would be new to Android.

The deal hints at Dell positioning the tablet as a more direct iPad competitor. While much smaller, it would now have a ready-made reader as well as preferred music and video stores that would typically be absent on other tablets.

Other details both confirm known specifications of the tablet, including its own custom dock connector, but do reveal that Dell will sell the Mini 5 with multiple different colors for the back and the option of custom patterns, presumably through the Design Studio.

Despite speculation, Mini 5 is expected to be the final name. While the Streak name has been mentioned in the past, Electronista overheard Dell staffers at CES referring to the tablet as the Streak only to change the title virtually the next day.

Dell,,,,,, making great covers for really crappy machines.. :-)

Patch the kindle software so it runs on Dell. Patch Dell so it runs kindle. Patch, patch, patch.

Yep sounds like a solid built from the ground up machine. :-(

What is it with some of you? They're making a kindle app for the dell. What does this have to do with 'patching'?

And I guess you have the same issues with the iPad. I mean, talk about taking an existing OS and patching it up to work on some new piece of hardware.

Oh, right. That's from Apple, so it's completely different.
