UniPrint 7.0 adds new printer driver, central admin console

updated 04:50 pm EST, Tue March 9, 2010

Improves PDF functionality

UniPrint has launched UniPrint 7.0, intended for Mac network printing in server-centric physical or virtual desktop situations. It works in both 64- and 32-bit environments using a PDF-based universal printer driver, which in turn is designed for Citrix, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and other non-Windows host system servers. It allows administrators to manage a single universal print driver and, through the use of PDF conversion and compression, in theory save up to 90 percent of the network bandwidth consumed by other direct printing methods.

Version 7.0 adds an enhanced printer driver, a new central admin console and PIN-protected security. It now manages server licenses, of special importance in virtualization environments where licensing can be more complicated. A new Printer Profiler tool allows administrators to create printer profiles with different combinations of functionality for users' requirements. It allows users to activate features like stapling, hole punching and binding via a predefined profile.

The update lastly adds daily font replication and on-demand font caching, delivering faster printing speed and better quality. Buying UniPrint requires company contact for info on pricing and system requirements.
