Multi-carrier agreement seen as likely
Apple executives are flying into the UK this week in order to negotiate carrier deals for the iPad, according to The Times. Although the iPad is set to ship in the region as soon as late April, Apple has yet to solidify who will sell SIM cards for 3G versions of the tablet, or how much data plans will cost. Times sources claim that some preliminary talks with UK carriers have already taken place.
Any agreement is likely to involve multiple carriers. The region has multiple cellular networks capable of supporting the iPad, and three carriers are already selling the iPhone, including O2, Orange and Vodafone. Of these only O2 is likely to provide an unlimited data option, as the other two have both imposed low overage ceilings on data.
