Creating framework for third parties?
Apple is looking to create a new framework for third-party advertising on cellphones, a job listing implies. The company is hiring a senior interactive web developer for its Boston offices, who will handle the "front end web UI development of compelling, interactive digital advertising experiences." Job demands include "client discussions, proof-of-concept coding, working with and adding to the existing framework, production deliverables and more."
The listing also states that Apple wants to "redefine the advertising on mobile devices," and that experience with iPhone apps and/or the iPhone web browser is ideal. The framework is said to involve a variety of standards, including WebKit, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript; notably, JavaScript is not currently supported on iPhones and iPods. The technologies will be brought into "interactive ad units," based on client requests and platform support.
A series of high-level advertising jobs have been created at Apple since it acquired Quattro Wireless in January. The company is still looking for an iPhone advertising SDK manager, and in February it hired two new European executives. By making advertising easier on iPhones, iPods and by extension the iPad, Apple may be able to persuade more developers that the iPhone OS is a profitable platform to be on.
