BlackBerry slider gets new photos, drops SurePress

updated 10:10 pm EST, Wed March 3, 2010

Device follows general form of Bold

Additional images and details of the unannounced BlackBerry slider have emerged. The latest photos, posted on BB Leaks, add further evidence to the recent reports of a new device from RIM. Despite early suggestions that the device might be the Storm3, the overall size and shape appears to be close to the current Bold but with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and larger screen.

Rumored specs point to a 360x480 touchscreen, while an optical trackpad appears to be placed between the buttons below the display. BlackBerry OS 6.0 and 802.11n Wi-Fi are also expected.

A leaked document corroborates the Bold claims, indicating the device may be the 9700a with a code name Talladega, according to CrackBerry. The 360x480 resolution suggests portrait orientation, rather than the Bold's 480x360 display, while the leak also supports the OS 6.0 detail. Unlike the Storm, the slider is believed to drop RIM's SurePress technology for click feedback.

Although the additional pictures corroborate the slider rumors, RIM has yet to provide additional details.
