Dell Mini 5 to due at AT&T, to get Android Market

New information about the Mini 5 tablet/smartphone from Dell has been revealed on Friday thanks to a comprehensive interview. Speaking to Laptop in a Thursday article, Neeraj Choubey, the general manager of tablets in Dell's Communications Solutions Group, said the company is working with AT&T on offering the Mini 5 to customers. Choubey also revealed users will have access to the Android Market, just like a more conventional Android-powered smarpthone.

The tablet is otherwise unique in that it will have a front-facing webcam that will allow for video calling. Choubey envisions the Mini 5 can comfortably eliminate the need for other portable electronics devices such as navigators, cellphones, MIDs and small video cameras.

The Mini 5 will have access to Google Mobile Services such as Gmail and Google Maps. Choubey expects that all Android Marketplace apps will be compatible with the device. While he stopped short of confirming Flash support will be built-in, Choubey said Dell is working with Adobe on bringing Flash support, as it believes customers demand this feature.

Dell is also reportedly working on a service that will let customers buy apps once and be able to access it on multiple Dell devices.

Choubey also touched upon what he believes is the main difference between Apple's iPad and Dell's Mini 5, and that's true portability due to the Mini's friendlier form factor in this regard.

The Mini 5 that ships to customers will also have its Android interface optimized for user friendliness to make the device "something users want to use," Choubey said.

Funny how Dell is trying to follow in Apple's footsteps. Go Apple. I pad for me.
