Browser integrates faster JavaScript engine
Opera on Thursday released a beta version of Opera 10.5 for Mac, following right behind the Windows version announced earlier in the week. The browser is said to integrate an improved JavaScript engine for faster page loads, while the interface now takes advantage of additional Cocoa elements. A unified tool-bar and private browsing tabs have been added, along with support for Growl notifications and multi-touch gestures.
The current beta build lacks support for PowerPC-based Macs, while OS X 10.4 users might experience performance issues. The software is also said to have minimal Java support and unresolved problems with the widget keyboard and windows.
Opera 10.5 beta is now available as a free download. The company has yet to announce a release date for the final version.
