SanDisk ships 64GB SDXC card

updated 08:55 am EST, Mon February 22, 2010

New storage card also allows faster file transfer

SanDisk announced that it has begun shipping its new 64GB Ultra SDXC card. The flash media can store approximately eight hours of typical HD video, and can transfer data at up to 15MB per second. Devices compatible with the new SDXC format have only recently been introduced, and include Canon's new VIXIA camcorders and PowerShot cameras. The extra capacity doubles that of the largest SDHC memory card.

SDXC cards are based on the new SD 3.0 specification and use a new file structure known as exFAT. In theory, the new spec makes possible SDXC cards of up to 2TB. They are not backwards compatible with SDHC readers. The SanDisk 64GB SDXC card is available for purchase immediately at the company's website and should retail for $350.

    Too slow

Let me get this right… 15MB per second x 60 seconds per minute ≈ 1GB per minute.
Therefore a full 64GB card would take over an hour to download.

They need to improve the connection speed now they're getting into serious capacity ranges.
