New ProClip mount supports TomTom-loaded iPhones

updated 03:20 pm EST, Mon February 22, 2010

Avoids problems with windshield mounts

ProClip and TomTom have collaborated on a new car mount for the iPhone. As with some existing kits, users can fit the ProClip mount in a car for use with TomTom's iPhone navigation app. The ProClip gear attaches directly to a part of the dashboard, however, eliminating falls because of problems with windshield suction.

A GPS signal booster is built-in, along with a microphone for making and receiving calls. A speaker amplifies sound feedback, and battery power is charged while an iPhone is in use. Two components are needed to actually install the ProClip system: aside from an iPhone holder, a clip specific to particular make and model of car must be chosen.

US prices and release dates are unknown, but the mount should already be available in the UK for £100.
