Shipping times return to normal for 27-inch iMacs

updated 04:20 pm EST, Thu February 18, 2010

Hardware troubles over?

The official shipping times for 27-inch iMacs have shrunk back to 5 to 7 business days, according to Apple's online store. The timing is once again consistent with that of 21.5-inch systems, and appears to apply regardless of the processor chosen. During recent months, shipping times have stretched out to as long as three weeks.

Apple has repeatedly denied suggestions that the delays have been connected to video problems, namely flickering and yellow tints. Instead the company has typically cited high demand, even as rumors have emerged of production halts, parts shortages and customer refunds. Two firmware updates have failed to resolve issues for everyone affected. A sudden resumption of normal shipping may suggest that Apple has finally dealt with a key, unspecified hardware problem.
