Sony Torne DVR for PS3 priced, dated

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ) on Wednesday has confirmed that its Torne DVR and TV tuner will be released next month. The product's release will be confined to Japan, as expected, because it supports the country's terrestrial digital broadcasts. The device will connect using the USB connection and have the ability to record TV onto the PS3's hard drive or up to four external hard drives at the same time.

Up to eight external USB drives can be registered to work with the recorder. PSP owners will be able to watch the recorded programs and even schedule recordings using the portable gaming device. On weekends up until the Torne's release, Sony will have demos of the Torne system in action at its Tokyo and Osaka stores as well as the Ginza Sony Building.

The standalone Torne DVR and tuner will retail for the equivalent of $110 in Japan when it launches on March 18th. A special edition 250GB PS3 bundled with Torne will cost the equivalent of $470 in Japan. As the tuner is made to work only with Japan's TV network, there is little hope it will arrive in North America, at least in its current form.
